i woke this morning to a valentine card left on my computer. it was a great way to start this morning. then the cleaning ladies came bright and early to get the house all spit, spot and shiny clean for a valentine's luncheon i was hostessing. i got jack and morgan off to school with all the items they needed to celebrate in their classrooms. it is so much fun to send them off on days like today because of their excitement. morgan told met this morning that he wanted to give sophie draayer his little stuffed animal that he sleeps with as a valentine gift. i giggled and told him that was a very kind gesture but that we ought to find something a little less worn out! so then when i mentioned that i had two extra little mini bundt cakes that both he and jack could use to give both sophie and her sister ruby for valentine's both boys were convinced that cake was the right choice. i love that they wanted to give those cute girls (we carpool with them in the afternoons) each a valentine. they have good choice in girls!
i've been catching lunch spontaneously with some different ladies recently and then one of them had us to her house to show us how she makes bread. i took lunch there to eat for us while the bread was rising. the next thing you know, we started a little rotating ladies who lunch group. i wanted to do a valentine's party so i offered to do the lunch this week. we had 8 ladies come and each of them brought a little gift to share of something we "love". each woman went home with a special little something new to enjoy. we ate homemade tomato soup with fresh basil and parmesan cheese, fresh fruit, homemade flax seed crescant rolls, and pear, apple, candied pecan and goat cheese salad. it was wonderful! i had such a fun time. sam was an angel. he was awake for a good portion of it and then he went right to sleep for a good nap. it was such fun to be with women that i don't always get to see due to the busy-ness of life! i loved the feeling in our home--having so many happy ladies her.
when jack and morgan came home from school it was so fun going through all of their valentines. they enjoyed each little card and got excited over just cards that said, "to my friend, morgan." they sorted everything out and played with stickers and the toys they got. it was so fun to see their excitement. we then ran to piano and to drop off the girl's valentine's cakes. that made morgan feel so great. jack felt awesome being able to pass off some of his piano songs that he has been working on for a few weeks now. later we picked up our valentine's gift for rod. (we got him newly hemmed dress pants for work.)
tonight we had my parents and a couple friend of theirs who are in town visiting (the lukes from the africa mission) over for round two of what i served for lunch. it worked brilliantly to just reheat and retoss everything. we told valentine's jokes and ate well. it was a fun night!
when we put the boys to bed to admired their little heart filled valentine's banners that they made with the kit my mom gave them as a valentine's day gift. they were so excited to make hearts and decrated them and attach them to that ribbon and hang on their beds. it was a fun idea for a gift this year!
i love the month of february. i've said it before and i just think that all the time during this month. it is just a short little burst of a month full of happy reasons to celebrate! today was full of people who matter to me and doing acts of service. i can go to bed happy feeling like what we all did today was show each other that we love them.
